Why Passionate Lives exists

“I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, OCD, agoraphobia and social phobia at fourteen. I spent my teens as a recluse. I fought back through my twenties. By thirty I'd emigrated to Australia and started studying community services. By thirty-four I was an accredited mental health trainer. Today I train others to do what someone could have done for me back then.”

About the founder

Trys Reddick.

Founder + MHFA Primary Master Trainer

Trys was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, OCD, agoraphobia and social phobia at fourteen, after leaving school. He spent his teens as a recluse, battling depression that carried into his mid-twenties. Through his twenties he fought back. By age thirty he had emigrated to Australia and was studying community services.

He spent five years in Job Network, assisting long-term unemployed Australians back into work - much of which involved supporting people with significant mental health challenges navigate a system that wasn't always built for them.

In 2015 he became an Accredited Mental Health Trainer and released his first book, Passionate People. Today, he is one of the few MHFA Primary Master Trainers in Western Australia - the highest tier of accreditation issued by Mental Health First Aid Australia.

Consistently five-star across WA

Trys is an amazing instructor. He made everyone feel safe in the room and kept us engaged for the whole two days. I've done a lot of training in my role, but this course was by far the best one I've ever done. Thank you.
P Peter Workplace participant
I thought the course would be boring and was only there because I had to be for work, but I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it. It taught me a lot about myself and my family. Now I aim to be more supportive of people going through challenges.
P Paul Workplace participant
Fantastic course, with great resources I was able to refer back to and a great instructor. My only issue is why I didn't do this course earlier in my life.
A Alan Public course participant
I've done a lot of different courses over the years but this one was different. Trys was a great instructor and I got a lot from it. I put it to use straight away to support a friend who was struggling, and she's now agreed to get some help. Thank you.
K Kerry Public course participant
So grateful to Trys. A fantastic achievement and very relatable - I loved the personal stories, which I believe added so much to the course.
K Kris Public course participant
We do the MHFA course every year with Trys and no matter how many times I've done it, I always learn something new. Keep up the good work, Trys.
